What is Undenatured Collagen 2?

Undenatured type II collagen, also known as UC-II, is a type II collagen extracted from animal cartilage using a patented low-temperature extraction technology that retains the complete triple helix structure and biological activity.UC-II is the type II collagen that has the most structural resemblance to the joint cartilage of humans and animals in nature. Many studies have proved that UC-II plays a very important role in eliminating joint inflammation and improving joint pain and other symptoms.

Type II collagen is another important member of the collagen family. Unlike type I collagen, type II collagen consists of three alpha chains, each containing 1,464 amino acid residues, forming a special helical structure. Type II collagen is mainly found in articular cartilage tissue.

Beneficial for Joint Degeneration

A study in a rabbit model of osteoarthritis highlighted the role of a combined solution of chondroitin sulfate, glucosamine, sodium hyaluronate, and natural type II collagen in maintaining joint health. When natural non-denatured type II collagen was added to the glucosamine solution, articular cartilage degradation was significantly reduced and cartilage appearance and structure improved. The joint condition of the natural non-denatured type II collagen experimental group was also closer to that of healthy joints compared to the control group.

May Improve Knee Discomfort

In a randomized controlled study exploring the efficacy of natural non-denatured type II collagen in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee, a three-month intervention (with paracetamol) significantly improved pain compared to a paracetamol-only group. The results showed that the group containing natural non-denatured type II collagen performed better than the control group without the product.

A retrospective observational study of patients with osteoarthritis found that chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine had beneficial effects in reducing cartilage degradation and osteoarthritis progression.
