What is Pterostilbene Powder?

Pterostilbene (E-3,5-dimethoxy-4,-hydroxystilbene), a trans-stilbene analog obtained from natural plants such as blue strawberries, Indian Gina trees, and sword-leafed dragon's blood trees in Guangxi, China, has a variety of effects such as anticancer, antioxidant, hypoglycemic, inhibition of COX-1 and COX-2 and antifungal. It is the main active ingredient of Ayuvedic, a traditional medicine for diabetes in ayurvedic medicine. It has the activity of activating peroxisome value-added substance-activating receptor and can reduce the level of blood lipids and blood glucose in animals. It is also a cancer chemopreventive agent and the dietary intake of pterostilbene is beneficial to health. It is effective in the treatment of cancer, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia.

Anti-Inflammatory

Pterostilbene may activate reduced coenzyme II oxidase through protein kinase C, thus stimulating neutrophils not to produce superoxide superoxide anion and myeloperoxidase, and its effect was significantly decreased at 100 μmol/L. Therefore, the effect of pterostilbene may be dose-dependent. Pterostilbene can inhibit the activation of nuclear factor NF-κB, thereby inhibiting the activation of pro-inflammatory cytokines and nitric oxide synthase genes, leading to a decrease in the secretion of tumor necrosis factor α, interleukin 1β, interleukin 6, and nitric oxide, and thus attenuating the stimulatory response to inflammation.

Anti-Ultraviolet Radiation

According to the study "Protective Effect of Pterostilbene on Acute Photodamage of Human Fibroblasts Caused by Long-wave Ultraviolet Radiation", which analyzed DNA damage by cell viability assay and comet assay, it was found that a moderate amount of pterostilbene powder could reduce the damage of UV rays on human fibroblasts. Pterostilbene is a natural sunscreen ingredient, and a cream containing 0.4% pterostilbene can provide skin with SPF 6.2 protection. Sugar easily reacts with collagen and elastin in the skin to form irreversible brown terminal glycosylation products (AGEs), leading to denaturation and cross-linking of collagen or elastin, which in turn triggers the skin to become wrinkled, rough, and dull. Similar to resveratrol, pterostilbene shows excellent antioxidant effects. In DPPH free radical scavenging tests, pterostilbene demonstrated a strong ability to inhibit DPPH free radicals.
