  • What is Berberine Hydrochloride Powder?

Berberine Hydrochloride is an isoquinoline alkaloid with various activities extracted from the rhizomes of plants such as Huanglian, Phellodendron Bark, and Sanguisorbia. It has the functions of clearing away heat, detoxifying and diarrhoea, and is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine. Its initial clinical application was mainly for antibacterial purposes.

As an active ingredient in the treatment of inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, berberine hydrochloride has also shown good efficacy in the treatment of dysentery and diarrhoea due to irritable bowel syndrome. It has been widely used over-the-counter to combat dysentery. It also has significant effects in regulating blood sugar and lipid metabolism, preventing atherosclerosis, antiarrhythmia, inhibiting tumour cell proliferation and anti-virus.

Green Spring Technology supplies 98% Berberine Hydrochloride Powder or granules. We supply Berberine Hydrochloride from Coptis Chinensis or Phellodendron chinense Schneid. It is a natural API.

Green Spring Technology is a leading biotechnology company in China, which was founded in 2000 and is dedicated to providing natural, safe, and organic plant extracts to its customers. It has obtained many certifications such as Halal, Kosher, COSMOS, BRC, IFS, FDA, ISO9001, ISO22000, and so on. Green Spring has a systematic internal quality management system and organizes production according to ISO, HACCP, and other quality standards. The products comply with EU EC396, EU 2023/915, and the highest solvent residue standards.

    Benefits:

    Bacterial Inhibition

The Chinese medicine Berberine Hydrochloride has the effect of clearing heat and removing toxins, and it has been used for thousands of years to treat diarrhoea. Berberine Hydrochloride (Berberine Complex) can fully exert its inhibitory effect on intestinal bacteria such as Shigella dysenteriae, Shigella fumigatus, Salmonella, and Staphylococcus aureus, and at the same time, it maintains the intestinal microenvironmental homeostasis as well as protects the mucous membranes of the gastrointestinal tract, thus resolving diarrhoea caused by intestinal infections.

    Hypoglycaemic

Under the stimulation of glucose, berberine hydrochloride can increase insulin secretion and cell proliferation in MIN6 islet cells, which can act as an insulinotropic agent; berberine hydrochloride can also activate the adenosine phosphate-activated protein kinase signalling pathway to restore damaged islet cells and promote insulin secretion in rats.

Berberine hydrochloride can effectively inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-alpha, modulate the expression of insulin receptor substrate 1 and serine/threonine kinase phosphorylation, thus improving the insulin signalling cascade and insulin resistance. It has the application prospect of assisting in the control of blood glucose.

    Anti-Inflammatory

Berberine hydrochloride has significant anti-inflammatory effects, mainly through inhibiting the production and activity of inflammatory factors. In a variety of inflammatory diseases, berberine hydrochloride tablets can exert excellent anti-inflammatory effects, such as gastroenteritis, pneumonia and so on. Berberine hydrochloride can effectively inhibit the adhesion of leukocytes, the activation of NF-κB, and the production and release of inflammatory factors such as TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, TGF-β, and IL-8.

    Beneficial to Cardiovascular Health

Berberine hydrochloride has been widely studied in cardiovascular diseases, as K+ channels, Ca+ channels, cholinesterase, M receptors, adenosine receptors, etc. can be targeted by berberine hydrochloride, therefore, berberine hydrochloride is also a valuable lead compound for cardiovascular diseases and has a promising application.

    Antihypertensive

The mechanism of action of safranin in antihypertension is mainly to competitively block the α-receptor of vascular smooth muscle, to reduce peripheral vascular resistance; in addition, it can also enhance the action of acetylcholine through the activity of anticholinesterase, to make the vasodilatation.

    Reduces Blood Glucose

Berberine hydrochloride inhibits mitochondrial glucose oxidation and stimulates glycolysis, subsequently increasing glucose metabolism; it reduces ATP levels by inhibiting mitochondrial function in the liver. It inhibits the activity of DPP 4 (a ubiquitous serine protease), which cleaves certain peptides, and they act to increase insulin levels in the presence of high blood sugar. Berberine hydrochloride has beneficial effects on improving insulin resistance and glucose utilization in tissues by lowering lipid (especially triglyceride) and plasma free fatty acid levels.

    Antioxidant

The metabolites of berberine hydrochloride and berberine have been shown to display excellent -OH scavenging activity, which is roughly comparable to that of vitamin C, a potent antioxidant. An increase in SOD (superoxide dismutase) activity and a decrease in MDA (a marker of lipid peroxidation) levels were monitored when berberine was administered to rats modeled with diabetes. Further results showed that the scavenging activity of berberine is closely related to its ferrous ion chelating activity, and the C-9 hydroxyl group of berberine is an essential part.
