Microbial Inhibition
Numerous studies have shown that bamboo leaf extracts have significant inhibitory effects on food-borne microorganisms. Yuan et al. investigated the inhibitory effect of bamboo leaf extract from Four Seasons Bamboo on three types of food-borne bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and the results showed that under the optimal conditions of extraction, the bamboo leaf extract had a good inhibitory effect on these three types of bacteria. Wu Yaohui et al. studied the bacteriostatic effect of bamboo leaf extracts of Bambusa and Bambusa, respectively, and found that the inhibitory effect of the extracts of these two types of bamboo leaves on Escherichia coli was better than that on Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus, and found that vitamin C had a synergistic effect on the inhibitory effect of the extracts of the bamboo leaves.
Anti-Tumor
Due to the presence of conjugated structures in the flavonoid molecules of bamboo leaf extract that are resistant to visible and ultraviolet radiation, it has a protective function against DNA damage in irradiated environments, thus reducing the incidence of malignant diseases such as tumors. Other studies have shown that bamboo leaf extract has an inhibitory effect on the proliferation of tumor cells and can stimulate the growth of synapses in nerve cells, so it has both anti-tumor and neuroprotective effects.
Prevention of Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Diseases
Fu Chunxiao et al. successively explored the effects of bamboo leaf extract on canine myocardial ischemia and cerebral ischemia in rats, and the results of the study showed that the bamboo leaf extract had significant preventive and curative effects on cardio-cerebral ischemia. Other studies have shown that bamboo leaf extract has a significant antagonistic effect on myocardial infarction caused by coronary ligation in rats, which can reduce the area of myocardial infarction, increase myocardial contractility, and dilate coronary blood vessels. In addition, studies have shown that bamboo leaf extract can effectively reduce blood lipids and atherosclerosis index.
Beneficial for Diabetic Kidney Disease
Bamboo leaf extract has been shown to lower blood glucose levels in diabetic mice and reduce diabetic kidney damage in rats. The mechanism of action may be related to the inhibition of oxidative stress through the activation of the AKT signaling pathway.
Applications:
For Health Products:
The antioxidant, anti-aging, and preventive effects of bamboo leaf extract on cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and tumors have been noticed in the pharmaceutical industry. A variety of tablets, capsules, and other health care products and medicines based on bamboo leaf extract have been introduced.
In the Food Field:
Bamboo leaf extract has an antibacterial effect and can be added to food as a natural preservative to extend the shelf life of food. In addition, bamboo leaf extract can be added to food as a flavor substance to create a unique taste and texture and enrich the nutritional content. Currently, bamboo leaf extract has been added to foods such as desserts and beverages.
In Cosmetics:
Bamboo leaf extract flavonoids have a conjugated structure that absorbs visible and ultraviolet light, as well as antioxidant efficacy, coupled with its properties as a natural plant ingredient with a high degree of safety, and therefore have been used in the field of cosmetics, especially in the field of sunscreen products.
