    Luo Han Guo extract (containing 80% Luo Han Guo saponin) 0.5, 1.0g/kg gavage for 30 days can reduce fasting blood glucose in tetracosactin-induced diabetic mice. Luo Han Guo extract can improve the reactivity of pancreatic islets in type 2 diabetic rats, and further in vitro studies found that Luo Han Guo extract and Luo Han Guo saponin V have a promoting effect on insulin secretion.

     

    Different growth stages of Luo Han Guo extracts had the effect of elevating postprandial insulin levels in mice. The insulin stimulating effect of 90-day ripe Luo Han Guo extract was stronger than that of 60-day fruit extract at the same dose. Consumption of 2% Luo Han Guo juice concentrate or 0.08% Luo Han Guo sweet glycoside solution for 60 days led to a decrease in TC and TG and an increase in HDL-C in the serum of hyperlipidemic mice. Luo Han Guo flavonoids 400 and 200 mg/kg by gavage for 7 days reduced TC and TG content and increased HDL-C in experimental hyperlipidaemic mice.

     

    Anti-Hepatic Injury

    Luo Han Guo Mogroside 1.5, 0.75g/kg gavage for 7 days on carbon tetrachloride-induced acute liver injury and BCG + lipopolysaccharide-induced immune liver injury in mice have a protective effect, can reduce the serum ALT, AST, elevate liver SOD activity, reduce the content of MDA, reduce the liver tissue lesions; Luo Han Guo Extract Mogroside 0.8, 0.4, 0.2g/kg continuous gavage for 8 weeks can reduce the serum ALT, AST activity, elevate liver SOD, GSH-Px activity, reduce liver MDA, inhibit liver tissue transformation of liver tissue in a model of CCl4-induced chronic liver injury rats, and inhibit liver tissue MDA. CCl4-induced chronic liver injury model rats serum ALT, AST activity, elevate liver tissue SOD, GSH-Px activity, reduce liver tissue MDA, inhibit hepatic tissue transforming growth factor β1 (TGF-β1) expression, attenuate hepatic tissue pathological changes.

     

    Antioxidant

    In vitro tests have shown that Luo Han Guo extracts can effectively scavenge hydroxyl radicals and superoxide anion radicals, inhibit auto-oxidative haemolysis of isolated rat erythrocytes, and reduce MDA, as well as Luo Han Guo saponin V with this activity. Luo Han Guo sweet glycoside can significantly prolong the half-death time, average life span, and maximum life span of Drosophila, and can also increase the SOD content in brain tissue and serum of D-galactose-induced senescence model mice and reduce the MDA content.

     

    Anti-stress

    Gavage administration of 15g of raw Luo Han Guo extract/kg improved locomotor activity, hypoxia tolerance, and heat tolerance in mice. After 21 consecutive days of gavage of fresh Luo Han Guo extract, mice in the 4 ml/kg dose group had significantly prolonged the exhaustion swimming time, increased the liver glycogen (LG) reserve, and increased the activity of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH); blood urea nitrogen (BUN) level after exercise was significantly decreased in the 4 ml/kg dose group and the 8 ml/kg dose group; and blood lactic acid (BLA) level after exercise was significantly decreased in the 4, 8, and 20 ml/kg dose group of the gavaged fresh Luo Han Guo extract mice. Blood lactate (BLA) levels decreased significantly after exercise, and it had an anti-fatigue effect on exhaustion swimming mice.

    The Mogroside V of Luo Han Guo Extract is high in amino acids, fructose, vitamins, and minerals. It is also used in traditional Chinese cooking as a spice and nutritional additive. As a versatile natural sweetener, it is an ideal substitute for artificial sweeteners such as aspartame.
